7th July 09 - Canon has announced the Selphy CP790, a new portable inkjet printer which comes in a storage bucket that holds ink, paper and the power cord. When stored, the printer is the lid of the bucket.

The idea is that the user can put all of the supplies they need to print into the bucket and then easily take it on a trip and create prints without a PC. Memory card slots for SD/SDHC, MemoryStick and CompactFlash cards are included, as well as a USB port for connecting to a computer and an IR port. An optional Bluetooth adapter is also available.

The CP790 replaces the older CP770, and adds a number of new features, such as photo processing features called Creative Options, which allow the user to process images in a number of different ways. These Creative Options can, for instance, detect faces in an image and correct the brightness of the images. Photo Diaries can also be created, where the printer will take a number of images and create a print that shows the dates they were taken.

The CP790 can print at sizes up to 4 by 6 inches in about 43 seconds, and also includes a 3-inch screen. It will be priced at $179.99 and is available now. The optional battery costs an additional $79.99. Full specifications are available here.
