August 15, 2007* – Epson America, Inc. announced the release of four new printers today—a document printer and three all-in-ones. The Epson Stylus C120 will sell for $89.99 and features "laser quality" documents at what Epson claims are the fastest inkjet speeds of any comparable printer on the market. The Epson Stylus CX7400, CX8400, and CX9400Fax provide the functionality of an all-in-one with expanded photo technologies, such as face detection and Easy PhotoFix, which aids restoration of old, faded photos. These three models sell for $69.99, $99.99, and $149.99, respectively. The C120, CX7400, and CX8400 are available now, while the CX9400Fax will be available in October. This whole new line of printers feature Epson’s DuraBrite Ultra pigment inks in five ink cartridges—cyan, magenta, yellow, and two black cartridges that allow for increased black document printing. The MicroPiezo print heads’ nozzles spray in three different droplet sizes, a more efficient method of ink placement than single droplet-sized print heads. These inks also feature increased fade resistance (up to six times greater than competitor’s prints, according to Epson’s research), they dry instantly, and they are resistant to smudges and highlighters.

Epson is touting the photo correction technologies that these printers have to offer. They’ve included Auto Photo Correction, which includes technologies to improve image lighting and face detection to enhance exposure and color for portraits. Epson is marketing the Stylus C120 to small and home offices as an alternative to laser printers because of its fast print speeds. The sleek black printer can print documents in draft mode at 37 pages per minute (ppm) black and 20 ppm color. It can print borderless images at all sizes, and it accepts media up to 8.5-by-44 inches in size. The Epson Stylus 7400 and 8400 models feature printing, copying, and scanning, while the 9400 adds fax to the mix. The economically priced CX7400 all-in-one can print at speeds of 28 ppm black and color and 26 ppm for 4-by-6-inch photos. The CX8400 and CX9400Fax speed up this process to 32 ppm for black and color documents, and an equivalent color photo speed of 26 ppm. Both the Stylus CX8440 and Stylus CX9400Fax feature tilting 2.5-inch LCD displays for image preview and menu navigation.

The CX7400, CX8400, and CX9400Fax have multiple card slots and are PictBridge-compatible. The CX7400 has a one-touch fit-to-page copy feature, while the CX8400 and CX9400Fax have user scalable sizing of 25 percent to 400 percent. All three all-in-ones feature 48-bit scanning with a color CIS line sensor. The CX9400’s fax features standard 33.6Kbps sending and receiving, with a 60-number speed dial and 100-page memory. The all-in-one’s 30-page auto document feeder allows for faxing, scanning, or copying of multiple-page documents.
