August 28, 2007* – HP released a cluster of new photo all-in-one printers (AIOs) in the Photosmart line today, all featuring print, color copy, and color scan capabilities and memory card compatibility. The top-of-the-line Photosmart C8180 sells for $399 and has a 3.5-inch touchscreen display that allows for easier menu access, and users can archive photos directly onto the built-in CD/DVD. The Photosmart C6280 ($199) and 7280 have 2.4-inch LCD screens, and the C7280 also features a fax for $239. The C4385 economy model includes wireless connectivity and will sell for $139. These printers will be available starting September. The Photomsart C4385 packs a lot of features into an affordably priced AIO, including wireless, Images can be transferred via memory cards or wirelessly from a WiFi-enabled PC, and they can be previewed on the 1.5-inch LCD. Black text documents print as fast as 30 pages per minute, color docs in 23 seconds, and 4-by-6-inch photos in 25 seconds. Two ink cartridges (one black, one tri-color integrated) allow for easy replacement.
HP notches things up a bit with the Photosmart C6280 and C7280. Both models feature an automatic duplexer and 2.4-inch LCD, as well as standard six-color printing (individual ink cartridges—black, cyan, magenta, yellow, light cyan, light magenta). Both of these printers, as well as the C8810, can print as quickly as 34-second black text, 33-second color docs, and 10-second photos. The C6280 has an Ethernet port. The C7280 features wireless and Ethernet, and it adds to its office usefulness with a fax and an auto document feeder.
Like the C6280 and C7280, the Photosmart C8810 also features 6-color printing and a duplexer. However, the C8810 adds a lot more features for that $399 price tag, including a large, 3.5-inch touchscreen, which allows users to interact with menus directly on the screen instead of through multiple control panel buttons. Wireless andEthernet connectivity are standard, as is a CD/DVD burner, with which images can be archived directly without a PC. This model also provides CD/DVD printing abilities, including HP’s LightScribe technology for etching customized text directly onto CDs and DVDs. The C8810 scanner achieves 4800-by-4800-dpi, 96-bit, six-color scanning, and it can also scan negatives and slides.
