February 27, 2007 - Sony unveiled a pair of portable dye sublimation printers, the DPP-FP90 and the DPP-FP70, which will enable on-the-go printing at costs as low as $0.29 per print. Available in March, these tiny printers are equipped with carrying handles and integrated LCD screens for viewing and editing photos. The DPP-FP90 has a large 3.6" screen and will retail for $200, while the FP70, with a smaller 2.5" screen, sells for $150. The units use a specially laminated paper that will be sold in packs of 40, 80, and 120 sheets for $20, $30, and $35, respectively.

The new printers are optimized to access data files on Sony Cyber-shot and Alpha D-SLR cameras to achieve optimal quality. The units are also compatible with most PictBridge-capable cameras, PCs, and common memory card types including Sony Memory Stick, CF, and SD cards without adaptors.

The fastest listed print time for these printers is 45 seconds for a 4" x 6" print from a Memory Stick. Special onboard editing functions include superimpose, which allows users to place greeting card-like messages onto the photos and Auto Touch-up, designed to correct exposure and sharpen out-of-focus images at the touch of a button. Other filters allow for adding painterly effects, applying partial colors or monochrome effects, and even changing perspective with the fish-eye filter.
