Canon Intros Two Low Cost Photo All-In-One Printers

Canon has introduced two new low cost photo all-in-one printers.

*11th Aug 08 *– Canon has introduced two new low cost photo all-in-one printers that they claim offer simpler operation and improved image quality. The $99.99  Pixma MP480 and the $69.99 Pixma MP190 both offer printing and scanning capabilities, while the MP480 supports the new ChromaLife 100+ dye ink, which Canon claims will last up to 300 years when appropriately stored.

The MP190 is priced at $69.99, and has a claimed black text print speed of up to 19 pages per minute (ppm) and 15 ppm for color. It can print at a resolution of up to 4800 by 1200 and can produce a borderless 4 by 6 photo print in 70 seconds. The scanner includes what Canon describes as the Advanced Z-Lid, which includes a hinge that they claim makes scanning books or 3d objects easier, as it provides more room for them to lie on the scanner bed.

The $99.99 MP480 adds a 1.8-inch flip-up LCD screen and ups the speed to 20 ppm for black text and 16 ppm for color. It can also print photos faster; Canon claims that a 4 by 6 borderless print will pop out in around 45 seconds. The scanner also includes a new mode called Auto Scan Mode, where Canon claims that the scanner will detect the type of document being scanned and alter the settings accordingly, including which format the document is saved in (PDF or JPEG). Both printers can scan at up to 2400 by 4800 dots per inch (dpi), or up to 19,200 dpi with interpolation. They can scan documents up to 8.5 by 11 inches in size. The combination of scanner and printer also allows them to work as copiers; the MP190 can do up to 19 copies per minute (cpm) in black and white and the MP480 up to 20 cpm.

Both printers also support the new ChromaLife 100 system, which they claim improves the lifespan of prints by increasing resistance to heat, humidity and noxious gases that cause fading. They claim the new system will resist fading for up to 30 years. The MP480 also supports the new ChromaLife 100+ dye ink, which Canon claims has a lifespan of 300 years if properly archived. The ink for this has to be purchased separately from the printer.

Both printers are due to be available to the public in September.
