June 12, 2007* – Canon announced a slew of new products and services at their Digital Solutions Forum in Chicago, including the imageRUNNER C5185 series multi-function printers. These new, large-volume office color MFPs will be the first Canon products to feature a Single-Pass Duplexing Automatic Document Feeder, which can scan the two sides of double-sided documents simultaneously, reducing time per scan to 100 images per minute. The C5185 Series printers are capable of 51 page per minute print output as well. The two models, the C5185 ($23,000) and the C5185i ($25,000) will be available in the third quarter of 2007. In addition to the new single-pass duplexer, the C5185 series MFPs also feature other new Canon innovations. Users can expedite document production with Workflow Composer, a function that allows users to link tasks and workflow processes to a single button. Access Management System gives administrators greater control in order to manage these devices at both the group and user level. The C5185 is the base model, which allows for user customization, and the C5185i, which allows for out-of-the-box use. Sam Yoshida, vice president and general manager, Enterprise Systems Division, Canon U.S.A, comments on the company’s new technological developments in a press release. 'As the nature of companies' document management needs have continued to increase in complexity over the years, Canon has remained committed to designing products that increase output speeds and quality, while simplifying the end-user experience.' In an effort to achieve these goals, the C5185 series also incorporates Canon’s imageCHIP system architecture which allows for simultaneous performance of all functions, including faxing, copying, scanning, and printing, a technology not available on small office MFPs. The company has also included their Twin-Belt Fusing Technology to address customer’s demands for increased output, with faster warm-up and print times. Security issues are also addressed with the C5185 series, with the addition of Web-based Distributed Authoring and Versioning protocols and advanced authentication with Single Sign-On and Simple Device Log-in.
