7th Aug 08 - Epson America has introduced a new flagship line of premium Ink Jet all-in-one printers: the Artisan range. Two models have been announced in the new line; the $199.99 Artisan 700 and the $299.99 Artisan 800. Both models offer standalone printing, one-touch copying, as well as scan and fax capabilities.

The Artisan line will use Epson's new Ultra Hi-Definition Claria ink system, which Epson claims will last for 200 years if properly stored. This system is comprised of 6 individual color ink cartridges, which allows users to replace only the colors that are running low. Also, if the black ink cartridge runs out, the Artisan series will combine existing colors to mimic black. Other features include Wi Fi and ethernet networking, borderless photo printing, and software for creating DVD labels, greeting cards, or other creations.

Both models include LCD screens (a 2.5-inch on the 700, and a 3.5-inch one on the 800) and a touch-screen interface. Epson claims print speeds of 38 pages per minute for black and white, and 10 seconds for a 4 by 6 photo print. Software is included to convert scanned images into editable text, or to white-out a scan's background for a clean text copy. The printers also have some built-in photo editing features, allowing users to restore faded photos straight from the camera, either via memory card or PictBridge connection.

The Artisan 700 and 800 will be priced at $199.99 and $299.99 respectively. They will be available in retail stores in September.
