28th Feb 08 - HP launched their first Deskjet printer 20 years ago today, the HP Desjet (seen below), and to celebrate they have announced two new Deskjet printers: the HP Deskjet D2500 Printer Series and HP Deskjet F4200 All-in-One (AiO) Series. Both printers are expected to be available this spring. The HP Deskjet D2500 will sell for $49 and the HP Deskjet F4200 AiO for $79.
The highlight of the printers are, as HP claims, in its new Vivera ink technology. According to HP, Vivera is produced in three different ways for three functions: the photo-versatile ink is designed for everyday at-home printing jobs, the professional ink is dedicated to graphics and photograph prints and lastly the office ink is intended for technical and marketing drawings. HP claims all three inks are compatible with the HP Deskjet D2500 and the HP Deskjet F4200 AiO.
In addition to Vivera ink, HP claims that both printers are compliant with Energy Star’s energy-efficiency program. HP claims its researchers dimmed some of the unused parts, like in the display panel. To determine whether or not these changes will significantly decrease power usage, the printers will have to go through our review process.
The printers come with photo editing software, Photosmart Essential Software, which allows users to view, organize print, create photo templates, and share photographs. They also come with HP’s Smart Web Printing, which HP claims automatically adjusts web pages to fit the paper without cutting the web pages off. However, the downside is that both of these are incompatible with Windows 2000 and Macintosh operating systems.
The Deskjet D2500 and F4200 weigh in at 6.2 lbs and 10.8 lbs, respectively. HP claims they can print at a rate of up to 26 ppm in black and up to 20 ppm in color. It also claims both printers’ resolution stand at 4800-optimized dpi and have High Speed USB 2.0 connectivity. They’re also both outfitted with an 80-sheet fold-up paper tray.
Specific to the Deskjet F4200 is 1200x2400 dpi scan resolution that HP claims can preserve document or image scans.
Both the HP Deskjet D2500 and Deskjet F4200 AiO will be available for purchase this Spring 2008 for $49 and $79, respectiviely.
